4th MSE ( Middle-South-East) Meeting

resonance / discussion

The program of Resonance closes with a discussion and party with a VJ performance by the Split Academy student Marnel Tomic aka VJ Plazmatik. During June 2006, Resonance presented works by students of the University of Split Art Academy (UMAS), in the selection of Sandra Sterle, professor at the New media department of UMAS.

When, as an artist, success at the beginning of your artistic career is lacking, continuing for a lot of artists is hard and the step from a practicing to non-practicing artist is easily made. So easy, that it takes a while before realizing that the step has already been made. But what if your position in the artistic field is accomplished and you’re a successful artist and you decide to stop producing work? Is this to be seen as an ending of a career or is it a statement towards the art world? Isn’t it possible to blur from one profession to another? Why can’t you be an artist for a period of time and move on to another profession?

/ interactive movement animation Gifoskop is an experiment that manifests the relations between what is perceived as the basic elements of dance: locomotion, composition and its visuality. It is also an analytic means for communicating dance procedures between dancers and non-dancers. Gifoskop enables the non-dancing body to animate its creative and performative mechanisms in dancing.

Work in Progress, public discussion

The public discussion as part of Lara Badurina's project Work in Progress? deals with issues of responsibility of art and educational institutions, galleries, as well as independant organizations and curators in promotion of artists, with the awareness that all protagonists of the existing cultural chain within new research-based contemporary art praxis, would benefit from focusing on the international cultural space. The discussion touches upon the problem of absence of institutional actions and articulate marketing initiatives as back-up to the art productions, which would be recognized and supported on the national level.
